UPDATE: An announcement was made today that Johnny Depp would meet with fans at St. Anne High School today. A publicist for the film later said that information was inaccurate, but admitted that Depp does sometimes meet fans after a day of filming.

A Johnny Depp sighting took place outside St. Anne Community High School at about 12:25 p.m. today.

Depp is in town for the filming of “Public Enemies,” a Depression-era gangster film slated for a July 2009 release. Depp plays the role of infamous mobster John Dillinger.

Universal Studios has set up a number of trailers in the back parking lot of the school, and Depp walked out of one and climbed into the back passenger side of a black Ford Expedition. The vehicle pulled out of the parking lot and onto St. Louis Avenue. While it did not stop, Depp rolled down the window and waved to a crowd of about 60, many of whom were shouting his name.

While some members of the crowd expressed disappointment that he didn’t stop, they showed appreciation that he recognized them with a wave.

Depp and the rest of the crew were en route to an abandoned farmhouse east of St. Anne, where a full day of filming is planned.

In an early alert to retailers, Paramount/DreamWorks has set a late-October bow for the macabre musical ‘Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.’

Bringing together the minds of Tim Burton and Stephen Sondheim, the $50 million-grossing ‘Sweeney Todd’ will make its long-awaited Blu-ray debut on October 21, over six months after the standard DVD release. (DreamWorks had previously announced an HD DVD version for this past April, but nixed the release after the studio dropped support for the format.)

Tech specs for the Blu-ray include 1080p video and English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround audio, along with French and Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround dubs.

The 12-year-old southside resident received a package in the mail Thursday from Depp’s production company, Infinitum Nihil, containing a variety of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” promotional gifts along with a vintage fedora Depp told Taylor he could have when the “Public Enemies” star was in town in April for filming.

“All I really said was ‘Can I have your hat?’,” Taylor, who will start seventh grade at Grace Lutheran Church this fall, said. “And he said ‘When I’m done with it, it’s yours.’ He was actually pretty cool.”

The rumors have been denied that Johnny Depp and longtime girlfriend Vanessa Paradis will wed this month.

Johnny’s rep Robin Baum was quick to squash the story that the couple was planning on marrying at Sandra Bullock’s house in Savannah, Georgia.

Johnny and Vanessa have been together since 1998, and have been really happy and stayed out of the tabloids, so maybe whatever they’ve been doing this whole time seems to be working!

There’s no other actor that the British love more than Johnny Depp, shows a new poll.

The actor topped a survey of 3,000 people aged seven-years-old and over by the Cinema Advertising Association (CAA), a trade association of cinema advertising sales contractors operating in the UK.

In fact, Depp is so popular among the Brits, that he took the majority of the votes across all ages and genders.

Depp beat the likes of 007 Daniel Craig, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Sir Sean Connery and Orlando Bloom to take the top spot, reports the Daily Express.

CAA spokeswoman Anna Cremin said that it was the actor’s versatility that appealed to audiences the most.

“Depp has such a wide appeal demonstrated by moving from serious films like Donnie Brasco to blockbusters and comedies. Few other actors have managed to be so versatile,” she told the paper. (ANI)

Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson
Johnny Depp narrates the documentary Gonzo, that tells the history of Hunter S. Thompson, journalist and personal friend of Johnny.

The movie is set to be released in July 4, in limited cinemas, and just in USA. There’s no information about the movie being released outside USA.

IESB.net has learned, via an interview with director Peter Segal, that the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and “Corpse Bride” team of Tim Burton, John August and Johnny Depp are reuniting for Dark Shadows.

Burton will reportedly direct the Warner Bros. feature based on the ’60s supernatural TV show from a script by August. Johnny Depp’s Infinitum-Nihil and GK Films are producing and Depp has had interest in playing Barnabas Collins, the vampire patriarch of the series, but that hasn’t been confirmed.

Over 1,225 episodes, “Dark Shadows” was a highly atmospheric, spooky soap that featured gothic horror staples like vampires, monsters, witches, werewolves, ghosts and zombies.
