On Set Of Transcendence: Holding Autograph Session
Showing some love to his loyal followers, Johnny Depp held an impromptu photo and autograph session outside the set of his new film “Transcendence” in Los Angeles on May 09.
The “Pirates of the Caribbean” hunk had spent a long day shooting scenes for the flick but still found the energy to engage his fans, sporting a brown leather jacket with distressed jeans and a driving cap.
Coming up this weekend, Johnny will be in New Mexico for additional work on the movie, and it seems his costar Cory Hardrict’s wife Tia Mowry will be making an appearance.
Mowry gushed that meeting Depp will be the best Mother’s Day gift ever- “Last year, I was out of town promoting my book ‘Oh Baby’ so I didn’t get to do much. This year my husband is actually shooting a movie in New Mexico with Johnny Depp, so guess where we will be? We will be in New Mexico with Johnny Depp.”
Johnny Depp has joked a horse planned to attack him while filming his latest movie. The actor had a scary experience while filming his latest movie when he narrowly avoided getting trampled by a horse. The star thinks the animal might have had its sights set on him all along.
“I think the horse had it in for me!” he laughed to the UK edition of OK! magazine.
“I saw everything very clearly, which was the horse’s incredibly muscular front legs moving at an obviously very dangerous speed, and I was still holding on to the mane like an idiot trying to get back up. So it’s like one must make a decision, do I go down, do I hit the deck on my own, or do I wait for a hoof to split my face in two? So I chose both, to fall on my own.”
That atrocious final chapter aside, people love them some Jack Sparrow. (Especially Michael Bolton!) They love the gravely voice, the spacey demeanor, the marionette-like posture. And although each of these elements was birthed by Johnny Depp, in the role that turned him from cult favorite to omnipresent movie star, it seems as though a few people are willing to see them carried out by another Hollywood icon. An equally beloved, perhaps more respected, thespian — Kermit the Frog. With The Muppets… Again! brewing for 2014, some fans of Jim Henson’s felt family were inspired to put together a crossover video between the 1996 picture Muppet treasure Island, and Depp’s ongoing franchise Pirates of the Caribbean.
In the video, Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie, Gonzo, and Tim Curry all inhabit (in a rather impressive dub job) the Pirates characters, channeling fandom of both entertaining realms. Check out the parody trailer below.
A lot of people are worried and feeling slightly uneasy at the thought of Johnny Depp — regardless of his acting chops and charisma — playing a Native American without actually being one (check him out above)!
Though, to be fair, he IS an honorary member of the Comanche tribe.
And Armie Hammer (AKA The Lone Ranger himself) says that it’s totally cool because he talked to a few Native Americans and they said they were fine with it!
Honestly, if we were a Native American actor and had to watch a tailored-role go to a famous white guy, we might be a little upset too (on top of whether or not Depp’s portrayal is actually offensive!)! Here’s what he said about it being white people who actually have the problem with Tonto:
“They were nothing but excited about it. They loved it — they’re thrilled. It’s so funny, because every Native American we talked to was like, ‘This is awesome! I’m so excited.’ And every white person we talked to was like, ‘How dare you cast a non-Native American?’ It’s like, the white people are the one who have the problem, but the Indians — the Native Americans — are like, ‘This is great. We love it.’”
As Katey noted in her editorial, it’s getting difficult to tell Wally Pfister’s “Transcendence” and Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar apart. Not only did the director of the former work as the latter’s director of photography for years, they’ve even begun to show a similar taste in actors, with Morgan Freeman – a veteran of Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy – signing on for a part in Transcendence last week. But the connections don’t end there.
Latino-Review has learned from a source that Cillian Murphy, who worked with Pfister as a DP on all three of Nolan’s Batman movies as well as Inception, has signed on to play one of the three male leads in Transcendence. The Irish actor joins what is already a truly all-star cast that not only includes Freeman, but Johnny Depp, Paul Bettany, Rebecca Hall, and Kate Mara as well. While larger details about the plot are being kept under wraps, it’s been said that the movie is about a group of scientists studying the theory of the technological singularity – the moment where technology becomes intelligent and able to think on its own. Newcomer Jack Paglen wrote the script for the film, which is scheduled to start production this month.
Murphy had a pretty decent year in 2012, featured in not only Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, but the UK drama Broken (which is still making its way around the festival circuit) and the Sundance selection Red Lights. He recently worked alongside Jennifer Connelly and Melanie Laurent in writer/director Claudia Llosa’s Cry/Fly, which isn’t expected out until next year.
Johnny Depp is bringing “The Lone Ranger” to Las Vegas during CinemaCon next month.
Disney announced last week that Johnny, co-star Armie Hammer, director Gore Verbinski, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer will discuss the movie on April 17 after showing 20 minutes of exclusive footage to 400 fans at the convention.
Can’t make it to Vegas? They will be live streaming the event on Yahoo Movies and Livestream. Fans around the world can also submit questions through Twitter using the hashtag #LoneRanger for the event.
The Q & A session will take place at the AMC Town Square 18 in Las Vegas at 1 p.m. PT.
Rebecca Hall is set to star alongside Johnny Depp and Paul Bettany in Oscar-winningcinematographer Wally Pfister’s directorial debut, “Transcendence“, it was announced by Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove, co-founders and co-CEOs of Alcon Entertainment, which is financing and producing the project.
Principal photography is set to begin in Los Angeles in April. Warner Bros. will release the film on April 25, 2014 via its output deal with Alcon.
Written by Jack Paglen, the screenplay was developed by Annie Marter and Straight Up Films, whose company principals include Marisa Polvino, Kate Cohen and Regency Boies. Polvino, Marter and Cohen will produce along with David Valdes (“Book of Eli”), Johnson and Kosove. Boies will co-produce.
Christopher Nolan, Emma Thomas and Aaron Ryder are serving as executive producers.
