Welcome to JDW, one of the largest and oldest fansites dedicated to academy award nominated actor Johnny Depp. Johnny Depp is, for sure, one of the lead name in the world's movie industry, recognized for his talent and charisma. Working as an actor since the 80's, he has a dedicated and passionated fanbase around the world. We're here to celebrate Johnny's life and career, and give fans a place to find the latest news regarding Johnny, as so media, images and more.
Johnny Depp is attached to play notorious Boston gangster Whitey Bulger in director Barry Levinso’s “Black Mass“. Bulger — South Boston’s most violent criminal who used his political connections and became an FBI informant to protect his turf — was the inspiration for Jack Nicholson’s character in “The Departed”, and he was captured in June 2011 after 16 years of being on the Fed’s Most Wanted List.
First-time screenwriter Mark Mallouk adapted the 2001 book “Black Mass: The True Story of an Unholy Alliance Between the FBI and the Irish Mob“, written by former Boston Globe reporters Dick Lehr and Gerald O’Neill.
“I could not be more thrilled to have the biggest star in the world and Academy-Award winning director Barry Levinson to finally bring this incredible story to the big screen,” says Cross Creek Pictures president Brian Oliver, in a statement. “We have been working on this project since we originally optioned the book in 2005. Black Mass expertly details the twists and turns of this highly complex story, painting a vivid portrait of Boston’s underbelly and its corrupt political machine, as well as exposing the worst scandal in FBI history. It’s also an examination of loyalty to family, Irish heritage, and South Boston.”
The film is scheduled for a May 2013 start date, and will be distributed in the U.S. by Universal.
Bulger’s story is also the subject of a potential biopic from Ben Affleck and Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter, with Matt Damon possibly playing Bulger and Affleck directing.
The long awaited World of Warcraft movie is finally moving forward, and with a director that is both exciting and surprising. Duncan Jones of “Moon” and “Source Code” fame has snapped up the directing gig. Originally helmed by Sam Raimi, the project was dropped by the Evil Dead director so he could concentrate on his Oz movie. Honestly, we thought this project was long dead, but Jones and Warner Bros. are planning on starting production on the movie adaptation of the role-playing game in 2013!
Jones is a surprising choice, but it makes sense. The director is a rabid gamer, plus now is the time for Jones to prove himself with a big budget production. The trades are reporting that the budget for this movie is more than three times larger than Source Code. We’re excited, and hopefully there’s enough time for Jones to dust off the old script.
In response to the news, Jones took to twitter, posting, “So the gauntlet was thrown down ages ago: Can you make a proper MOVIE of a video game. Ive always said its possible. Got to DO it now! ;.”
But wait, the crazy news doesn’t stop there! According to Tracking Boards, the studio allegedly wants Johnny Depp to star in the movie. But let’s be honest, I’m sure the studio wants Depp to star in every movie they make, so take that with a giant grain of salt.
“Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” hit theaters in 2011 and went on to break the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office. And now comes word that Disney and Johnny Depp are ready to return for a fifth installment.
The studio just hired “Catch Me If You Can” writer Jeff Nathanson to provide the script. Jerry Bruckheimer is once again on board to produce andJohnny is set to return as Captain Jack Sparrow.
At this point, very little is known about the plot or whether actors from previous films, like Geoffrey Rush and Keira Knightley, would reprise their roles. Stay tuned.
Even as he anticipated the sunset of his filmmaking career recently, Quentin Tarantino is looking ahead to who he’d like to work with, and Johnny Depp tops the list. The Django Unchained director said he’d like Johnny to star in a future pic, but will only cement plans once he’s written the perfect part for the Pirates of the Caribbean actor.
Tarantino told talk show host Charlie Rose that it would be “magical” to work with the 49 year-old actor, adding: “We would love to work together. We’ve talked about it for years. Not that we get together and talk about it for years, but from time to time.”
The two appear to have mutually high esteem for the other, according to Tarantino. But the key is finding the right moment.
“We’re obviously fans of each other,” he said according to Contactmusic.com. “I just need to write the right character that I think Johnny would be the right guy to do it with. And if he agrees, then we’ll do it, and then it’ll be magical.” Continuing, Tarantino shared that he hasn’t as of yet, “written the perfect character for Johnny Depp as of yet. Maybe someday I will, maybe someday I won’t. We’ll see.”
I added 29 HQ screen captures of the official trailer for Johnny’s upcoming movie “The Lone Ranger” to the photo gallery. Check them out and enjoy them! Feel free to let us know what you think of the trailer.
The jokes can get pretty random on Family Guy, but this week there will be some high-powered star wattage powering one such gag: Johnny Depp. The film star makes his debut on the animated comedy by voicing one of his most memorable and sharpest characters from the big screen, Edward Scissorhands.
In the episode, which airs Sunday at 9 p.m. on Fox, Lois goes through a mid-life crisis and starts acting like someone half her age. As Chris, Meg, Stewie, and Brian wonder what’s wrong with her, Depp appears in a cutaway gag playing the titular character from Edward Scissorhands… as a night nurse. What will happen when Johnny reprises this iconic role for nearly 20 seconds? Press play and hold your babies tight.
Johnny Depp could be adding yet another project to his already full plate. Alcon Entertainment says Johnny’s in negotations to star in “Transcendence” for first-time feature film director Wally Pfister. Pfister’s an Oscar-winning cinematographer who shot The Dark Knight Rises, Inception, Moneyball, and The Italian Job, among other huge films.
Jack Paglen wrote the screenplay, with filming expected to begin early next year. Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas are producing the project which is set up for distribution by Warner Bros Pictures.
According to THR, the film is supposed about a “man who creates a computer that develops a malevolent awareness.”
Alcon Entertainment’s co-founders and co-CEOs Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove announced Depp’s potential involvement in the film: “Johnny Depp is one of the most charismatic, talented actors imaginable and we are delighted he is with us on this project.”
Pfister added, “I’m thrilled, and feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Johnny. He is a creative and intelligent artist whom I feel will bring great depth to the character and the overall narrative.”
