‘Transcendence’ has been released on Blu-ray about a month ago, so today I have added 582 Blu-ray screencaptures of Johnny as Dr. Will Caster to our gallery. I thought it was a great, enjoyable, thought-provoking movie that deserved much more credit than the critics gave it. And what did you think of the movie? Let us know in the comments!
Everything in modern filmmaking is making the transistion from analog to digital: sound, editing, visual effects, cinematography. And soon, maybe even our movie stars.
That’s how it looks in the new poster for “Transcendence,” the upcoming science fiction thriller with its roots in the real theories of how man and machine may someday come together. Depp plays Dr. Will Caster, a brilliant scientist working towards the singularity — or what he calls “transcendence” — where computers become so advanced they can perfectly replicate or even exceed the capacity of a human brain.
When an anti-technology activist shoots Dr. Caster to derail his research, his wife (Rebecca Hall) insists on making him the first subject of the experiment. But her efforts to keep his intelligence alive after his body dies creates a new and unpredictably dangerous form of life.
“Transcendence” marks the directorial debut of Wally Pfister, who is the Oscar-winning cinematographer of Christopher Nolan’s films “Inception,” “The Prestige” and “The Dark Knight” trilogy. And while his film takes place on the edge of the technological frontier, Pfister still prefers to do some things the old-fashioned way. Pfister has always insisted on shooting with film and not digital cameras.
“Transcendence” open[s on] April 18.
Finally, the first trailer for Johnny’s upcoming movie project Transcendence was revealed on YouTube. Feel free to check it out on our website below on this post. To my mind the trailer looks pretty interesting. I’m looking forward to seeing this movie.
The first official images have arrived online for Transcendence, the directorial debut from Wally Pfister, giving us a first look at Johnny Depp and some of the rest of his assembled co-stars.
The new film casts Johnny as an expert in Artificial Intelligence, whose life’s work is to create a sentient machine capable of human emotion.
An intriguing line of work then, but a controversial one, and it isn’t long before Johnny’s character is targeted by anti-technology extremists.
However, their interference only serves to provide the final piece in the jigsaw, as Depp himself undergoes the “transcendence” that finally brings his work to fruition…
The new images give us a look at Johnny’s character both pre and post transcendence, while also giving us some idea of the visual aesthetic Pfister has gone for. Shiny sci-fi goodness, ahoy!
Co-starring Rebecca Hall, Morgan Freeman, Cillian Murphy and Paul Bettany, Transcendence will open in the UK on 25 April 2014.
Johnny has reportedly offered two homeless people a chance to feature in his forthcoming sci-fi film “Transcendence” after spotting them in Albuquerque, Mexico. They have been offered short roles.
“Johnny always likes to help out the community when on location. While scouting out the area around Albuquerque, he came across these two characters. He was straight on the phone to the casting director,” femalefirst.co.uk quoted a source as saying.
It is not the first time the actor has helped out people living on the streets. In 2011, he had bought a hat from a homeless person.
His film “Transcendence”, is directed by Wally Pfister. Releasing April 2014, it also includes actors like Morgan Freeman, Cillian Murphy and Rebecca Hall.
Showing some love to his loyal followers, Johnny Depp held an impromptu photo and autograph session outside the set of his new film “Transcendence” in Los Angeles on May 09.
The “Pirates of the Caribbean” hunk had spent a long day shooting scenes for the flick but still found the energy to engage his fans, sporting a brown leather jacket with distressed jeans and a driving cap.
Coming up this weekend, Johnny will be in New Mexico for additional work on the movie, and it seems his costar Cory Hardrict’s wife Tia Mowry will be making an appearance.
Mowry gushed that meeting Depp will be the best Mother’s Day gift ever- “Last year, I was out of town promoting my book ‘Oh Baby’ so I didn’t get to do much. This year my husband is actually shooting a movie in New Mexico with Johnny Depp, so guess where we will be? We will be in New Mexico with Johnny Depp.”

As Katey noted in her editorial, it’s getting difficult to tell Wally Pfister’s “Transcendence” and Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar apart. Not only did the director of the former work as the latter’s director of photography for years, they’ve even begun to show a similar taste in actors, with Morgan Freeman – a veteran of Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy – signing on for a part in Transcendence last week. But the connections don’t end there.
Latino-Review has learned from a source that Cillian Murphy, who worked with Pfister as a DP on all three of Nolan’s Batman movies as well as Inception, has signed on to play one of the three male leads in Transcendence. The Irish actor joins what is already a truly all-star cast that not only includes Freeman, but Johnny Depp, Paul Bettany, Rebecca Hall, and Kate Mara as well. While larger details about the plot are being kept under wraps, it’s been said that the movie is about a group of scientists studying the theory of the technological singularity – the moment where technology becomes intelligent and able to think on its own. Newcomer Jack Paglen wrote the script for the film, which is scheduled to start production this month.
Murphy had a pretty decent year in 2012, featured in not only Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, but the UK drama Broken (which is still making its way around the festival circuit) and the Sundance selection Red Lights. He recently worked alongside Jennifer Connelly and Melanie Laurent in writer/director Claudia Llosa’s Cry/Fly, which isn’t expected out until next year.
Rebecca Hall is set to star alongside Johnny Depp and Paul Bettany in Oscar-winningcinematographer Wally Pfister’s directorial debut, “Transcendence“, it was announced by Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove, co-founders and co-CEOs of Alcon Entertainment, which is financing and producing the project.
Principal photography is set to begin in Los Angeles in April. Warner Bros. will release the film on April 25, 2014 via its output deal with Alcon.
Written by Jack Paglen, the screenplay was developed by Annie Marter and Straight Up Films, whose company principals include Marisa Polvino, Kate Cohen and Regency Boies. Polvino, Marter and Cohen will produce along with David Valdes (“Book of Eli”), Johnson and Kosove. Boies will co-produce.
Christopher Nolan, Emma Thomas and Aaron Ryder are serving as executive producers.
