Hollywood actor Johnny Depp is all set to narrate an upcoming documentary about the famous band The Doors. The renowned band, which made waves in the 1960’s with songs like ‘Riders on the Stor’ and ‘Light My Fire’, are still loved for their classic songs. However, the band had a tragic end, as its vocalist Jim Morrison died of a drug overdose, after which the band eventually split in 1973.
The Charlie and The Chocolate Factory actor will be narrating Tom DicCillo’s flick, which has been titled ‘When You’re Strange’, reports the Screen Daily. Although, the flick premiered at the Sundance Film Festival with a narration track by DiCillo, Depp has been signed up to narrate an updated version.
“Johnny saw the film early on, we showed him an early cut and he responded very strongly to the subject matter,” Contactmusic quoted producer Peter Jankowski, as saying. Meanwhile, ‘The Doors’ have sold around 80 million albums worldwide.
At the Television Critics Association press tour today, Nickelodeon’s President, Cyma Zarghami, announced big plans for SpongeBob SquarePants, as the animated series celebrates its tenth anniversary. This will include a new special episode, “SpongeBob vs. The Big One”, which will feature a very big guest star – Johnny Depp. Depp will play the king of surfing, Jack Kahuna Laguna, or JKL.
A clip from the episode was shown, in which SpongeBob and his friends watch in awe, as JKL walks from his small hut onto the beach – carrying the world’s longest surfboard, which keeps going and going and going, as it comes out of the hut’s door. The buff, blond JKL stoicly stands there as SpongeBob and the others heap words of praise on them – and then proceeds to surf a ridiculously huge wave, as dolphins majestically swim alongside him. Says JKL to the amazed SpongeBob, “That was your first lesson.”
Also announced was a live cast reading of SpongeBob at the Sundance Film festival on January 18th. There will also be a primetime documentary special for the 10th anniversary, discussing the history of SpongeBob SquarePants and the show’s impact on pop culture.
RUSSELL Brand is thrashing out a deal to appear in Pirates of The Caribbean 4 — as Captain Jack Sparrow’s brother.
The deal to play Jonathan, younger brother of Johnny Depp’s character, could be worth £5million.
It would catapult Brand, 33, into the Hollywood A-list less than a week after resigning from his Radio 2 show over the Andrew Sachs phone row involving him and Jonathan Ross.
A source said: “There couldn’t be a role more perfectly suited. There’s a lot of Jack Sparrow in his mannerisms and behaviour. Depp’s accent isn’t a million miles away from Russell’s either.
“Russell joining the Sparrows alongside Johnny and Keith Richards as their dad will complete the ultimate on-screen pirate family.”
Brand, based in Los Angeles for the next few months working on new films and a Comedy Central special, has already formed a close relationship with Disney.
In his first US theatre show since the Radio 2 scandal, he took a swipe at Sachs’s granddaughter, burlesque dancer and model Georgina Baillie — who was at the centre of the phone storm.
He told the audience in West Hollywood: “Burlesque and erotica – I’ve been rethinking it of late.”
Johnny Depp has been voted the ultimate heartthrob in a poll of the world’s 25 sexiest men.
The 45-year-old Pirates Of The Caribbean star took first place in the Cosmopolitan survey, followed by George Clooney and Jake Gyllenhaal.
The honour comes just months after Depp was voted Britain’s favourite actor in a separate poll.
James Bond star Daniel Craig took fourth place, with Brad Pitt coming in fifth.
Also making the top half of the list were James McAvoy, Justin Timberlake, Will Smith, David Beckham, Wentworth Miller, Christian Bale and Jonathan Rhys Meyers.
Politicians David Cameron and David Milliband failed to score in the reader’s survey, which can be read in the November issue of the magazine.
A business group had to pay $12,000 in relation to producing an ad that used a photograph of “Public Enemies” star Johnny Depp without permission.
The Downtown Oshkosh Business Improvement District had to reimburse the Oshkosh Northwestern newspaper and the Buyers Guide $12,000 for having to reprint Experimental Aircraft Association guides that included the ad.
District Manager Maureen Strauss said a local resident photographed Depp, but the group did not seek Universal Studios’ permission to use Depp’s image. Local officials brought it to the group’s attention after publications containing the ads had already been printed.
Earlier this year “Public Enemies” filmed in numerous Wisconsin communities, including Oshkosh.
After playing a pirate in “Pirates of the Caribbean” series, versatile Hollywood actor Johnny Depp is set to play the Mad Hatter in the film version of “Alice in Wonderland”. Thesun.co.uk reports the movie will be shot in 3D and Depp teams up with his friend and collaborator, director Tim Burton. The two have worked together on six movies.
A source said: “Burton has had designs on ‘Alice In Wonderland’ since before he was famous. He has a knack for turning what seem like stories for just kids into gripping, spooky fables loved just as much by adults. He’s held out on doing ‘Alice’ till he got a big enough budget. Now this film is financed by Disney so money won’t be a problem.”
Unknown actress Mia Wasikowska will play Alice. Production will start next year and the release is planned for the summer of 2010.
Pamela Anderson’s rock star ex-boyfriend Tommy Lee wants Johnny Depp to play him in a movie.
The Mötley Crüe drummer, 45, is making a film about his life and band — and thinks the Pirates of The Caribbean star would be perfect as the leading man.
He says, “Johnny Depp would be my choice to play me. He’s the best ever.”
But Lee — who recently rekindled his romance with Baywatch babe Pamela — and the rest of Motley Crue are not quite ready to give Depp a call yet.
“We’re working on it,” he adds. “We’re trying to find the right producers and director and all that sort of stuff.”

Johnny Depp didn’t make any Public Enemies at the wrap party for his upcoming flick.
Unlike his pilfering Jack Sparrow, the real-life J.D. was all generosity when it came to showing the Public Enemies cast and crew a good time at Chicago’s Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse. The 45-year-old star hosted a 50-person party and covered each and every head, a source tells OK!.
“Johnny’s a true class act,” a source tells OK!. “He picked up the tab and left a great tip!”
Such magnanimity isn’t new for Johnny. Last month, he kept his word to a 12-year-old fan and sent a fedora he wore in Public Enemies to the young boy when production wrapped. Also in the package? Gifts for the boy’s siblings and a personal note.
There’s no other actor that the British love more than Johnny Depp, shows a new poll.
The actor topped a survey of 3,000 people aged seven-years-old and over by the Cinema Advertising Association (CAA), a trade association of cinema advertising sales contractors operating in the UK.
In fact, Depp is so popular among the Brits, that he took the majority of the votes across all ages and genders.
Depp beat the likes of 007 Daniel Craig, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Sir Sean Connery and Orlando Bloom to take the top spot, reports the Daily Express.
CAA spokeswoman Anna Cremin said that it was the actor’s versatility that appealed to audiences the most.
“Depp has such a wide appeal demonstrated by moving from serious films like Donnie Brasco to blockbusters and comedies. Few other actors have managed to be so versatile,” she told the paper. (ANI)
