Rose and Jack have transformed the Hollywood star’s world

Johnny Depp has lived with long-term partner Vanessa Paradis in France for 8 years and the couple adore their two kids.

Fatherhood, says Johnny, has changed his life.

‘I wasn’t alive before,’ he admits. ‘I felt like I just wandered through 35 years in kind of a fog, then Vanessa, little Rose [8] and Jack [5] woke me up. Honestly, it was like being asleep for a long time and then waking up.’

The actor acknowledges Hollywood’s ‘insane’ and all ‘pretend’ so he enjoys the calmness of family life in Europe.

‘Being famous is kind of an occupational hazard,’ he says. ‘Once you reach a certain point, it takes a lot of money to buy a simple life. But I’ve had worse jobs. Anyone in this kind of privileged position has no right to cry about it.’

Johnny, 44, can’t remember the last time he wept but he gets all emotional when he shares special occasions with his loved ones.

‘There are things, especially as a parent, like Christmas with your children…’ he says. ‘That’s devastating stuff, in a very good way. It’s the only reason to live.’

Fortunately Jack and Rose enjoy his films.

‘For a while my kiddies couldn’t stop watching Pirates One,’ he reveals, ‘then they moved on to Charlie And The Chocolate Factory.

‘It’s strange when I walk into a room and hear that familiar score or voice. I exit as quickly as possible. I hate seeing myself on screen, I find it strange. But to my kids it’s normal.

‘All they’ve ever known is Papa on TV or on a DVD cover. They can go from watching one of my movies to the dinner table and not mention the film at all.’

Johnny’s new movie Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street is released nationwide today.

I got to go see Sweeney Todd for my 13th anniversary with my husband- A night out without the kids- Heaven! It was so great! I bought the soundtrack and enjoy listening to it in my truck when the kids are not with me! If they’re with me it’s Star Wars for the past 2 years! I’d rather here Johnny sing and remember the fun we had at the movie seeing Sweeney Todd! See it at the Movie Tavern, they serve drinks and dinner!

The lady next to my husband kept flinching and covering her eyes from the blood, but I just didn’t feel like it was hard to watch at all. Depp- so talented and smart!

    The trailer was awesome

I would like to see it

Kids do change your whole world. I don’t even have kids, but I spend an awful lot of time babysitting my brother and sister’s kids! Course it’s scary when they grow up on ya and you still remember when they were babies and now they are taller than you are and can look like your date! That was a nightmare!

Anyway, yeah Johnny was a wild child before but you can totally see his level-ness with his kids and the maturity of the roles he now chooses. You can totally tell he is thinking about his kids, but at the same time remaining edgy. Course, I don’t think I would allow my nieces or nephews to go see ST without supervision, well maybe the older ones, but definitely not the babies. They’d scream bloody murder and would be up all night if they were to see ST.

If I could meet any actor it would have to be Johnny Depp. I have seen just about all of his movies and my favorite… besides Pirates, would have to be What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. I think that is the sweetest movie I have ever seen. Johnny Depp did such a good job playing Gilbert Grape. I also like Finding Neverland and Edward Scissorhands.

To me Johnny Depp and Tim Burton are the perfect match. Tim Burton is probably my favorite director. He has such a creative imagination.

Johnny Depp is my dad. I have a friend named Melanie. She is the sweetest person ever and she looks like Johnny Depp.

I love the idea of changing my look. I think one owes it to the audience, to go out there and give them something different each time, so as not to bore them to death. And I always felt that if you're not trying something different each time out of the gate, you're being safe, and you don't ever want to find that place of safety. I like that, each time, before I even go in front of the cameras, the studio's reaction will be fear. They have those hideous pangs of fear where they go, "He's fucking killing the movie." And I can't argue with them, because I might be. But I just know for the character that this is the right thing to do. And I've always enjoyed hiding behind these characters. It's a strange thing, you're more comfortable as a character than you are in life. You know what I mean? I could stand up in front of, it doesn't matter how many people, as a character. But if I had to do it as myself and give a speech, I would be liquid.
