Rodriguez says 'Mexico' caps trilogy

Robert Rodriguez says "Once Upon a Time in Mexico" absolutely finishes his trilogy of gunfighter movies that started with "El Mariachi" and continued with "Desperado."

"It's a great way to end the series with each one topping the last one," the director says.

Rodriguez says he thinks it would be kind of cool if he made "Once Upon A Time in Mexico" parts two and three - giving him two trilogies, but only five parts.
He says that would fit with the "strangeness" of the series.

Shot between the second and third "Spy Kids" movies, "Once Upon a Time in Mexico" features mariachi gunman Antonio Banderas reluctantly recruited by a leazy CIA agent (Johnny Depp) for an assassination masterminded by a crime boss (Willem Dafoe). "Desperado" co-star Salma Hayek returns in flashbacks that bridge the gap between that film and the new one.

"Once Upon a Time in Mexico" opens today.
