Like most giant stars, Johnny Deppis attached to far more projects than he could ever appear in, so any news of upcoming development is near meaningless. With that in mind, here are three more pieces of meat that Depp is adding to his plate.
Slashfilm is reporting that he’ll be continuing his engrossing and high grossing relationship with Disney by developing an adaptation of the 1970s made-for-TV movie The Night Stalker which features a journalist who starts to believe that serial killings in and around Las Vegas are actually the work of a vampire (which sounds curiously like the new Fright Night). Along with The Mouse, Depp is also trying to bring the story of Paul Revere’s midnight ride to life. Here’s hoping he doesn’t do all his research for it on Wikipedia.
If that weren’t enough, Depp wants to start moving on In the Hand of Dantewith Julian Schnabel as the director. According to The Playlist, the project isn’t exactly official, but Depp owns the rights, and Schnabel claims, “We’re gonna work on writing it, developing it.” The story, adapted from the book by Nick Tosches splits its time between Dante finding inspiration to write his “Divine Comedy” in the 14th century and a fictionalized Nick Tosches sinking into the underworld in 2001.
It’s unclear whether any of these projects will ever see cameras roll, or if Depp will be in front of them when they do, but there are definitely some interesting concepts here. The world can probably live without more vampires, but an Early American-set action adventure could be a lot of fun, and anything about tortured Sicilian writers descending into a personal Hell has certainly got some meat on its bones.
Johnny has been nominated for Teen Choice Awards in three different categories:

2006 was the year of the magician, with a series of conjuror themed films battling it out in the hearts and minds of America, a battle won quite handily by Christopher Nolan’s underrated movie The Prestige. Yet even with all the magic acts on screen that year, magicians never became the new pirates. Maybe what the Penn Jillettes of this world need is Johnny Depp.
The LA Times says Johnny Depp is at the top of Warner Bros. list of actors they want to play the lead in Carter Beats the Devil. The film, currently in development at the studio, is based on a book by Glen David Gold. His novel takes a 1920s magician and puts him in a strange and mysterious situation. The story mixes in historical figures, for instance at some point the main character Charles Carter will attempt to saw then president Warren G. Harding in half.
This movie has been sitting around in development hell for awhile now, at one point even Tom Cruise was supposed to be involved. But if you’re looking for a flamboyant magician look no further than Johnny Depp. He’s your main if you’re looking for someone to play a less annoying version of David Blaine. Actually just give Jack Sparrow a top hat and you pretty much have this part cast.
For now Depp is just one of the names they’re rumored to be considering. Johnny may have his hands full with other projects. He’s currently in pre-production on The Lone Ranger and somewhere along the way he’s been filming Dark Shadows, to say nothing of the other half-dozen or so upcoming films he’s rumored to be involved in.
Johnny Depp joined Alice Cooper and his band on stage at a concert in London on Sunday, June 26, for a gig described by one fan as “totally and utterly amazing.”
Wearing a brown vest, a hat and his signature shades, the 48-year-old actor played an electric guitar as Cooper, 63, sang his 1970s hits “School’s Out” and “I’m Eighteen” as well as the 1979 Pink Floyd classic “Another Brick In The Wall” before a cheering crowd at the sold-out concert at the famed 100 Club on Oxford Street.
After the performance, Depp and Cooper hugged. The veteran rocker then said into his microphone: “I think we could use another guitar player, right? Johnny, this whole movie thing … If it doesn’t pan out, join us, okay?”

Random Quote
“People like Johnny Depp are an exception. He is the current model of what an actor should be. His body of work speaks volumes. He was so under-rated for so long, but he will have longevity — and it is such a gratifying thrill to see he is finally getting the recognition he deserves.” — Dustin Hoffman
