Now that “The Tourist” has an official release date, December 10, 2010, I thought it would be appropriate to introduce the real leading man of the film: Paul Bettany. Or have him introduce himself, rather.
When I caught up with the entirely too likable actor at San Diego Comic-Con to discuss “Priest,” Bettany deftly avoided revealing any actual details about his character in the film.
“I can’t tell you anything!” he said. Instead, he presented his co-stars as “unknowns,” (Johnny Depp plays an American tourist abroad who becomes involved with an Interpol agent, played by Angelina Jolie), and revealed who he fell in love with while making the film.
“‘The Tourist,’ with two unknown actors called Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie,” Bettany joked when asked to comment on the film. “[That] little indie movie… I think it was the first Paul Bettany movie they had ever been in and they were a little nervous.”
“I sort of fell massively in love with Johnny Depp, who’s just one of the sweetest, funniest human beings you can possibly imagine,” he added. “It’s so nice when you meet one of those people who make that much f–king cash, that you kind of go, ‘I’m really glad it happened to you.’ It’s awesome.”
Sooo… not much actual news from Bettany other than he has a crush – which makes me think he plays the villain. Still, it’s good to know!
As you can see, we have a new and improved layout up. This should be up only next week, but I can’t help myself, it’s too gorgeous to be hidden.
And why 7.0? It’s because next August 27 we’ll be celebrating 7 years online. I almost can’t believe in it! And, well, this layout it’s just the start point of the whole celebration.
The gallery will be updated this weekend. I’m also working in updating the content, so you can browse around because you’ll find new content up. Please check back later, and follow our new twitter account, for more updates: twitter.com/jdeppweb!
Rumored to hit in December earlier this year, it looks like Sony/Columbia have indeed slotted Florian Henckel Von Donnersmarck’s “The Tourist” for a December 10 bow.
A romantic spy drama based on the 2005 French film “Anthony Zimmer,” this U.S. version (directed by Von Donnersmarck (a German and the same man behind “The Lives Of Others”) follows a bumbling American tourist (Depp) as he finds himself romantically involved with an international spy (Jolie) in what sounds very much in the vein of a Hitchcockian tale, but likely isn’t the case (it’s a fun little story, but isn’t all that meaty). Some sites will tell you that this means “The Tourist” is chasing an Oscar bid, but clearly they haven’t read the script. While not bad by any means, certainly enjoyable, and the version that will hit the screen is probably less fluffy than the version we read, Sony’s move is probably more akin to Warner Bros. placing “Sherlock Holmes” in December last year. The holiday season has become the new tentpole month and “The Tourist” should be engaging, but escapist entertainment that does well at the box-office, but is unlikely to pull in any Academy statuettes. Timothy Dalton, Steven Berkoff, Paul Bettany and Rufus Sewell co-star in the pic which shot in Venice earlier this year.
Gossip websites crashed after hoaxers claimed that Hollywood hunk Johnny Depp had been killed in an accident. The fraudsters mocked up a CNN page saying he had died in a car crash. The reports alleged that wreckage was found outside Bordeaux, in France, and pictures showed a guard rail embedded in the car. It was reported that the Pirates of the Caribbean star’s body was lying nearby among booze bottles.
“The police suspect that alcohol was the cause of the accident,” the Daily Star quoted the hoaxer as saying. Twitter users forwarded the bogus report and grieving fans jammed the Internet with one search engine reporting 13million hits. Computer experts claimed Johnny’s ‘death’ was the most searched subject in the world. But last night the bemused actor, 46, assured fans: “I’m alive and well.” “He’s fine,” insisted his spokesman Robin Baum.
Johnny is alive, and so is this website. Sorry for the lack of updates. Life is being a little busy to me and Annie, but soon the updates will be back as normal.
About the rumours, this isn’t the first time a hoax kills Johnny. This happens before, twice. In 2004, a CNN news bulletin declaring Depp dead in an alcohol-related SUV accident spread online. In 2007, the web doubted Depp’s existence once again when reports spread that Vanessa Paradis found him dead in his apartment, in Paris.
Tim Burton and actor Johnny Depp will team for a feature film version of the classic 1960s soap opera “Dark Shadows.”
The film will shoot in the fall, with Depp set to play the vampire Barnabas Collins, according to producer Graham King.
“We’re actually going to shoot that film next September/October with Tim Burton and Johnny,” King confirmed in an interview Friday in Los Angeles.
To guarantee a fall release, King is already prepping production with screenwriters.
“We’ve been working on the script a lot, even though he’s working on ‘Alice,’” King said. “We’ve been given a script. John August wrote the first screenplay. We’re making some changes, but the film’s going to be in production …”
From 1966 to 1971, “Dark Shadows” was a daytime gothic soap opera on ABC, featuring Jonathan Frid as Collins. NBC attempted a prime-time series reboot in 1991 that stared Ben Cross.
Captain Jack Sparrow isn’t the only daring adventurer in Johnny Depp’s repertoire, as the actor plans on bringing his own unique spin to the historical Mexican revolutionary hero Pancho Villa.
According to Variety, Depp will star as Villa in an upcoming biopic titled “Seven Friends of Pancho Villa and the Woman with Six Fingers,” which is easily one of the longest, most terrific titles I’ve heard for a prominent film in the past couple of years.
Depp will share the screen with Salma Hayek, who is in “advanced talks” to star in “Pancho Villa,” most likely as the titular woman with six fingers. Does that mean she only has six fingers total, or six fingers on one hand ala “The Princess Bride”? All six fingers are crossed for the latter.
The film comes courtesy of Serbian filmmaker Emir Kusturica and screenwriter Gordan Mihic, based on the novel “The Friends of Pancho Villa” written by James Carlos Blake. Blake’s book focuses on Villa as not only an excellent and accomplished soldier, but also as a big fan of “dancing, partying and making love.”
If you’re wondering about how “The Friends of Pancho Villa” might affect Depp’s upcoming work on the next “Pirates of the Caribbean” film, don’t worry too much. According to Variety, the film isn’t expected to begin production until 2011 due to Depp’s prior commitments.
Johnny Depp sizzles on the cover of EW’s Best of the Decade issue, on newsstands December 7 (Monday).
The 46-year-old actor was chosen by EW as one of the mag’s fifteen favorite entertainers of the decade! Also on the list are Tina Fey, Beyonce and Jon Stewart.
When the decade began, Johnny Depp wasn’t the Johnny Depp of today—one of Entertainment Weekly’s 15 Entertainers of the Decade.
Yes, he was a talented and critically acclaimed actor. But he wasn’t yet a surefire box-office draw. Then, in 2003, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl happened. Capt. Jack Sparrow was one of those without-a-net performances, so singular and subversive that it’s hard to believe Depp got away with it. An added bonus was that the actor, now 46, was able to sink his soul into a blockbuster character without selling it. And no one was more baffled by his and the movie’s success — the first of the three Pirates films eventually raked in $305 million — than Depp himself. Read more… »
Three-time Academy Award nominee Johnny Depp will collect the Bahamas International Film Festival’s career achievement award later this month.
Festival patron and fellow Bahamian resident Sean Connery will present the award during the event, which runs from December 10-17.
“We are proud of all [Depp’s] remarkable achievements and the great contributions he has made in all walks of life,” Bahamas Minister Of Tourism, Minister Vincent Vanderpool Wallace, said. “We are glad this prestigious award and tribute is going to almost one of our own.”
