Michael Caine On ‘Batman 3′: ‘There Is No Johnny Depp In This Batman’
Ever since Michael Caine infamously name-checked Johnny Depp and Philip Seymour Hoffman as potential cast members for the next “Batman” movie, he’s been on notice. According to Caine, who’s currently making the rounds promoting his upcoming film “Harry Brown,” he hasn’t been on the receiving end of any details regarding Christopher Nolan’s next foray in the Bat-universe… but that doesn’t mean he isn’t interested in where the franchise goes next.
MTV Movies Editor Joshua Horowitz caught up with Caine during the Toronto International Film Festival (where the “news” first got started last year) to pick his brain about the next “Batman” movie and joke about the scoop that rocked the ‘Net.
“There is nobody, there’s no script, there’s nothing,” Caine told MTV News of the status of the next “Batman” movie. “It can’t possibly be made before 2011 because ‘Inception’ is such a big picture.”
“[They] won’t tell me anything because I said this before,” laughed Caine of the no-tell policy surrounding him after last year’s Depp/Hoffman story. Nevertheless, Caine offered this bit of “news”—before admitting that it could be wrong, and he’d be in trouble all over again.
“Johnny Depp is great in anything, but there is no Johnny Depp in this Batman,” he smiled. “They tell me in no uncertain terms.”
Disney enthusiasts who made it to the studio’s big D23 Expo yesterday were treated to surprise appearances by a batch of big name stars. Depp was, of course, there to help kick up the buzz on the fourth film of the Pirates of the Caribbean blockbuster franchise. Hitting theaters next summer, the title for the fourth film was officially revealed to be…are you ready?…Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Rob Marshall of Chicago and Memoirs of a Geisha fame will be taking over at the helm of On Stranger Tides after Gore Verbinski, the director of the first three Pirates movies, opted out to work on other projects.
ComingSoon.net has learned that Sony Pictures Classics plans to release Terry Gilliam’s new movie The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus on Christmas Day, confirming earlier conjecture about the possibility.
Featuring the final screen performance by the late Heath Ledger, who earlier this year won a posthumous Oscar for his performance in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, the film will be making its North American premiere at the Toronto Film Festival on September 18 and be released in the UK on October 16.
The movie also stars Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell, Jude Law , Christopher Plummer, Tom Waits, Lily Cole, Andrew Garfield and Verne Troyer.
Late as always, I simply forgot to add this before. My friend Mata, which is extreme talented with graphics, offered us a September calendar, and it was added to the gallery:
“Dark Shadows” is a ’60s soap opera about vampires. All things supernatural really, but vampires are a big focus thanks to Jonathan Frid’s character Barnabas Collins. In an interview with MTV’s Josh Horowitz, director Tim Burton — who will soon turn to “Dark Shadows” with frequent collaborator Johnny Depp as its star — said that it’s too early to say if fans can expect a cameo from Frid in the adaptation.
Besides, Burton has bigger “Shadows” concerns than that. “One of the biggest challenges on ['Dark Shadows'] is to just capture that weird tone of the show,” he said. For now, the focus is on Burton’s unfinished “Alice in Wonderland,” which hits theaters in March 2010. As the director reveals in the video below, he hasn’t even seen the Caterpillar yet! “Dark Shadows” will come, in due time. But first, we all need to take a trip down the rabbit hole.
If you was a forum member, may be noticed the previous forum was down. That’s because we have some issues, but Sarah (our forum admin) has fixed it already. The forum now has a new url and I’ll ask you to, please, register agai to continue chatting with other fellow Depp fans.
MTV.com did a funny article about Twilight, if it was made in 80′s. They was guessing who actor will fit in every character and guess what? Johnny was casted as… Jacob Black:
Other casted characters were River Phoenix as Edward, Ally Sheedy as Bella, Molly Ringwald as Alice, Kiefer Sutherland as Emmett, Matt Dillon as Jasper and Elisabeth Shue as Rosalie.
Actor Johnny Depp has pulled off a difficult double act: maintaining popularity and credibility. Rochelle Siemienowicz reflects on Depp’s eclectic career, while the man himself talks about his latest roles as bank-robber John Dillinger in Public Enemies and Alice in Wonderland’s Mad Hatter. Source
