At the Television Critics Association press tour today, Nickelodeon’s President, Cyma Zarghami, announced big plans for SpongeBob SquarePants, as the animated series celebrates its tenth anniversary. This will include a new special episode, “SpongeBob vs. The Big One”, which will feature a very big guest star – Johnny Depp. Depp will play the king of surfing, Jack Kahuna Laguna, or JKL.
A clip from the episode was shown, in which SpongeBob and his friends watch in awe, as JKL walks from his small hut onto the beach – carrying the world’s longest surfboard, which keeps going and going and going, as it comes out of the hut’s door. The buff, blond JKL stoicly stands there as SpongeBob and the others heap words of praise on them – and then proceeds to surf a ridiculously huge wave, as dolphins majestically swim alongside him. Says JKL to the amazed SpongeBob, “That was your first lesson.”
Also announced was a live cast reading of SpongeBob at the Sundance Film festival on January 18th. There will also be a primetime documentary special for the 10th anniversary, discussing the history of SpongeBob SquarePants and the show’s impact on pop culture.
We have some low quality Entertainment Weekly pictures from January 9, 2009.
We’ll try and get high quality soon.
The usually tight-lipped actor has revealed he partied so hard in the 90s to try and deal with his meteoric ascent to superstardom.
Depp – who was engaged to hard-partying model Kate Moss and was friends with wild Oasis rockers Liam and Noel Gallagher during the decade – is quoted as saying: “I never wanted to be the guy people looked at. I felt I could only be myself when I was alone, that I turned into some kind of novelty. The only way I could get through that time was to drink.”
“I poisoned myself with alcohol for years but I’ve never been into drugs in the way it was sometimes made out.”
Despite a string of critically-acclaimed film performances and three Academy Award nominations, Depp admits he is still insecure about his acting abilities.
He said: “I don’t think of myself as being a celebrity, it’s too mortifying. I have a hard time watching myself on screen and it’s getting worse. I can’t tell whether my work is good or not.”
Me, Annie and Sal would like to wish all our visitors, Johnny’s fans and Johnny himself a great holidays season, with peace, harmony, health and happiness. Enjoy this season with your family and friends, and have a great new year.
I’ve found an old photoshoot that I didn’t see in the gallery.
And also a new (old) picture of Johnny at the UK DMC Press Conference.
Robert Pattinson to play Jack’s little brother?
ET goes straight to the source to find out if rumors that Robert Pattinson will star in the next ‘Pirates’ movie are legit.
As internet rumors and some published reports have speculated, Rob is supposedly lined up to play Johnny Depp’s little brother in the fourth installment of the movie franchise.
A rep for Disney, however, says flatly, “It is not true.”
Most of you have probably seen these already but to those who haven’t, here are few pictures of Dolls made by Noel Cruz.
As the Dec. 9 DVD release of “The Dark Knight” approaches, fans have casting picks for director Christopher Nolan should he create another Batman film. According to a survey conducted by Blockbuster Inc., movie fans are hoping to see Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie play starring roles. The villains that fans would most like to see Batman take on are The Riddler and The Joker’s therapist turned girlfriend Harley Quinn.
“Both Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie are actors who can bring a Batman villain to life in the complex, realistic style that have made Nolan’s films so popular,” said Keith Leopard, director of film product for Blockbuster Inc. “It would be exciting to see what they could do with The Riddler’s compulsive clue-giving and Harley Quinn’s transformation from brilliant therapist to psychotic criminal.”

I noticed we didn’t have these two stills in the gallery so here they are. Hope they are new to some of you.
