[Film Guardian] After facing off against Russell Crowe in 3:10 To Yuma and Heath Ledger’s Joker in the upcoming The Dark Knight, Christian Bale is preparing to go head-to-head with Johnny Depp. The pair will star in Michael Mann’s crime thriller Public Enemies. Bale will play FBI agent Melvin Purvis who led the hunt for the 1930s bank robber John Dillinger, to be played by Depp. Filming is expected to begin in March before a possible actors and directors strike on July 1 forces Hollywood film production to grind to a halt.
Sweeney Todd star Johnny Depp is on the new cover of Rolling Stone, talking about tackling the notoriously difficult Stephen Sondheim score for his new film, and how music has always been a part of his life.

ITN – Hundreds of screaming fans waited for hours at Narita airport near Tokyo to catch a glimpse of the Pirates of the Caribbean star.
Depp plays a serial-killing barber in a grim story of revenge set on the grimy streets of 19th Century London.
The movie sees Depp team up with director Tim Burton once again for the murderous musical.
The pair have worked on several films together including 1990′s Edward Scissorhands and more recently on a remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
The film also stars Burton’s other long-time collaborator and real-life fiancée Helena Bonham-Carter, who gave birth to the couple’s second son last December.
After trying for weeks to salvage the high-luster Golden Globe Awards ceremony, the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. is set to announce today that it will forgo the annually televised black-tie event scheduled for Sunday in favor of a scaled-down press conference broadcast on NBC.
The compromise would allow the winners to receive their awards but would cut out the lavish dinner and ceremony, an event the Writers Guild of America had vowed to picket.
The extended press conference would be covered by NBC News, which, though part of NBC Universal, is not a division affected by the ongoing writers strike. Read more… »
MUMBAI: Johnny Depp has been voted as the number one ‘Money-Making Star of 2007′ in Quigley Publishing Company’s 76th Annual Poll. This poll is an annual survey of motion picture exhibitors conducted since 1932. It votes for the top ten stars who generate the maximum box-office revenue in the preceding year for their theatres.
Depp, who starred in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, has repeated his 2006 performance. In 2005, he was placed only second to Tom Cruise.
This time round Will Smith, who starred in I Am Legend, finished second followed by George Clooney (Michael Clayton and Ocean’s Thirteen) and Matt Damon (The Bourne Ultimatum and Ocean’s Thirteen). The list further includes Denzel Washington (The Great Debaters and American Gangster) at fifth position while Russell Crowe ( American Gangster and 3:10 to Yuma) was placed sixth.
Interestingly, Tom Cruise, who remained in the top ten for a record 20 times since 1983 fared at number seven followed by Nicholas Cage, Will Ferrell and Tom Hanks respectively. This is the first year in 24 years, since 1983, that exhibitors have not included a female star in the Top Ten. [Source]
