Apr 27, 2008 – Local filming of the movie “Public Enemies” has been postponed for at least a week.

The cast and crew of “Public Enemies” was set to be in Beaver Dam at The Rogers on Monday morning and James Street in Columbus on Monday afternoon.

“Public Enemies” location scout Adam Boor said the local shots were pushed back due to some of the actors’ schedules.

“It’s been postponed to Monday or Tuesday next week (May 5 and 6) tentatively,” Boor said.

“Public Enemies” is a movie starring Johnny Depp as John Dillinger and costarring Christian Bale and Marion Cotillard.

Hollyscoop – Let’s face it, Johnny Depp can do no wrong! Not only is he gorgeous, he’s also one of the most kind-hearted actors in the biz. Depp has vowed to help a 17-year-old girl fight for her life.

Sophie Wilkinson was critically injured in a car accident five months ago, which has left her in a coma. Since Johnny Depp is her favorite actor, her parents wrote him a letter asking for his help. Much to their surprise, Depp was so moved he vowed to help in any way he could.

Wilkinson’s father Andrew says, “We are looking for the key to wake her up, so we wrote to Johnny and he said he would do the recording in the voice of (his Pirates of the Caribbean character) Jack Sparrow.

“Only this week Sophie moved her right leg, which she has never done before. When we got home my wife and I were jumping for joy!”

We’re not surprised that Depp would contribute his time to help out a little girl. Just last year Depp almost lost his own daughter to E. coli virus, so having a sick daughter has been a touchy subject since.

Comment: That’s why he’s the most adorable man in the world, and that’s why I’m so proud to be his fan.

While most of the Region was still sound asleep in warm beds, some 75 area residents gathered under a bright moon in 20 degree temperatures early Monday in hopes of doing a little star gazing.

Movie star gazing, that is.

Actor Johnny Depp is playing John Dillinger in the biopic “Public Enemies” filming this week in the outlaw’s old haunts in downtown Crown Point.

By 5 a.m., a group of nearly 50 people gathered behind an orange snow fence across Main Street from the old sheriff’s house and Hall of Justice just south of the courthouse square hoping to catch a glimpse of Depp. By 9 a.m., the crowd had grown to a few hundred. Read More

This photos represents our first glimpse of Johnny Depp in the role of 1930s bank robber John Dillinger in Michael Mann’s film PUBLIC ENEMIES. Filming began yesterday, March 17, 2008, in the small town of Columbus, Wisconsin, where crews have been busily recreating the ambience of 1933 along East and West James Street. One of Dillinger’s bank robberies will be staged at West James Gallery, a beautiful vintage building which, in Dillinger’s time, housed the First National Bank.

Added 15 pictures from yesterday at PE set.

    Lights, camera, action!

Filming begins today (Monday) in Columbus for the Johnny Depp movie “Public Enemies.”

It chronicles bank robber John Dillinger in the 1930s.

Historic Columbus, northeast of Madison, has been made to look like Crown Point, Ind. That’s where Dillinger escaped from jail while awaiting a trial.

Rubber cobblestone has been laid on the downtown streets.

Some of the buildings now have old-fashioned facades and awnings. Big crowds are expected today in a city with 4,500 residents.

Kate Lueders of the mayor’s office calls the transformation “magical.”

There will be at least one day of filming in Columbus and maybe more.

Filming is also expected in Oshkosh, Madison and Milwaukee — plus Illinois and Indiana — before production wraps up in July.

The filming will add an estimated $20 million to the Wisconsin economy.

It’s the first movie to receive new state tax filming credits which took effect in January.

NOTE: I’ve received some emails talking about the filmages, two girls saw Johnny. Did you saw him? Talk with us about this in this thread.

I love the idea of changing my look. I think one owes it to the audience, to go out there and give them something different each time, so as not to bore them to death. And I always felt that if you're not trying something different each time out of the gate, you're being safe, and you don't ever want to find that place of safety. I like that, each time, before I even go in front of the cameras, the studio's reaction will be fear. They have those hideous pangs of fear where they go, "He's fucking killing the movie." And I can't argue with them, because I might be. But I just know for the character that this is the right thing to do. And I've always enjoyed hiding behind these characters. It's a strange thing, you're more comfortable as a character than you are in life. You know what I mean? I could stand up in front of, it doesn't matter how many people, as a character. But if I had to do it as myself and give a speech, I would be liquid.
