A lot of people are worried and feeling slightly uneasy at the thought of Johnny Depp — regardless of his acting chops and charisma — playing a Native American without actually being one (check him out above)!
Though, to be fair, he IS an honorary member of the Comanche tribe.
And Armie Hammer (AKA The Lone Ranger himself) says that it’s totally cool because he talked to a few Native Americans and they said they were fine with it!
Honestly, if we were a Native American actor and had to watch a tailored-role go to a famous white guy, we might be a little upset too (on top of whether or not Depp’s portrayal is actually offensive!)! Here’s what he said about it being white people who actually have the problem with Tonto:
“They were nothing but excited about it. They loved it — they’re thrilled. It’s so funny, because every Native American we talked to was like, ‘This is awesome! I’m so excited.’ And every white person we talked to was like, ‘How dare you cast a non-Native American?’ It’s like, the white people are the one who have the problem, but the Indians — the Native Americans — are like, ‘This is great. We love it.’”
I uploaded 10 LQ pictures of Johnny during the “Lone Ranger” Fan Event and Global Trailer Launch in Las Vegas on April 17. Enjoy!

Finally, the new trailer for Johnny’s upcoming movie “The Lone Ranger” was revealed. Check it out!
As Katey noted in her editorial, it’s getting difficult to tell Wally Pfister’s “Transcendence” and Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar apart. Not only did the director of the former work as the latter’s director of photography for years, they’ve even begun to show a similar taste in actors, with Morgan Freeman – a veteran of Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy – signing on for a part in Transcendence last week. But the connections don’t end there.
Latino-Review has learned from a source that Cillian Murphy, who worked with Pfister as a DP on all three of Nolan’s Batman movies as well as Inception, has signed on to play one of the three male leads in Transcendence. The Irish actor joins what is already a truly all-star cast that not only includes Freeman, but Johnny Depp, Paul Bettany, Rebecca Hall, and Kate Mara as well. While larger details about the plot are being kept under wraps, it’s been said that the movie is about a group of scientists studying the theory of the technological singularity – the moment where technology becomes intelligent and able to think on its own. Newcomer Jack Paglen wrote the script for the film, which is scheduled to start production this month.
Murphy had a pretty decent year in 2012, featured in not only Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, but the UK drama Broken (which is still making its way around the festival circuit) and the Sundance selection Red Lights. He recently worked alongside Jennifer Connelly and Melanie Laurent in writer/director Claudia Llosa’s Cry/Fly, which isn’t expected out until next year.
I found a new poster for Johnny’s upcoming movie “The Lone Ranger“. This is my favorite poster so far. Feel free to check it out.

Johnny Depp is bringing “The Lone Ranger” to Las Vegas during CinemaCon next month.
Disney announced last week that Johnny, co-star Armie Hammer, director Gore Verbinski, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer will discuss the movie on April 17 after showing 20 minutes of exclusive footage to 400 fans at the convention.
Can’t make it to Vegas? They will be live streaming the event on Yahoo Movies and Livestream. Fans around the world can also submit questions through Twitter using the hashtag #LoneRanger for the event.
The Q & A session will take place at the AMC Town Square 18 in Las Vegas at 1 p.m. PT.
Rebecca Hall is set to star alongside Johnny Depp and Paul Bettany in Oscar-winningcinematographer Wally Pfister’s directorial debut, “Transcendence“, it was announced by Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove, co-founders and co-CEOs of Alcon Entertainment, which is financing and producing the project.
Principal photography is set to begin in Los Angeles in April. Warner Bros. will release the film on April 25, 2014 via its output deal with Alcon.
Written by Jack Paglen, the screenplay was developed by Annie Marter and Straight Up Films, whose company principals include Marisa Polvino, Kate Cohen and Regency Boies. Polvino, Marter and Cohen will produce along with David Valdes (“Book of Eli”), Johnson and Kosove. Boies will co-produce.
Christopher Nolan, Emma Thomas and Aaron Ryder are serving as executive producers.
Johnny Depp is attached to play notorious Boston gangster Whitey Bulger in director Barry Levinso’s “Black Mass“. Bulger — South Boston’s most violent criminal who used his political connections and became an FBI informant to protect his turf — was the inspiration for Jack Nicholson’s character in “The Departed”, and he was captured in June 2011 after 16 years of being on the Fed’s Most Wanted List.
First-time screenwriter Mark Mallouk adapted the 2001 book “Black Mass: The True Story of an Unholy Alliance Between the FBI and the Irish Mob“, written by former Boston Globe reporters Dick Lehr and Gerald O’Neill.
“I could not be more thrilled to have the biggest star in the world and Academy-Award winning director Barry Levinson to finally bring this incredible story to the big screen,” says Cross Creek Pictures president Brian Oliver, in a statement. “We have been working on this project since we originally optioned the book in 2005. Black Mass expertly details the twists and turns of this highly complex story, painting a vivid portrait of Boston’s underbelly and its corrupt political machine, as well as exposing the worst scandal in FBI history. It’s also an examination of loyalty to family, Irish heritage, and South Boston.”
The film is scheduled for a May 2013 start date, and will be distributed in the U.S. by Universal.
Bulger’s story is also the subject of a potential biopic from Ben Affleck and Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter, with Matt Damon possibly playing Bulger and Affleck directing.
I finally managed to upload the three posters and covers for Johnny’s upcoming movie “The Lone Ranger” in high quality, including the latest one. Feel free to check them out.

The long awaited World of Warcraft movie is finally moving forward, and with a director that is both exciting and surprising. Duncan Jones of “Moon” and “Source Code” fame has snapped up the directing gig. Originally helmed by Sam Raimi, the project was dropped by the Evil Dead director so he could concentrate on his Oz movie. Honestly, we thought this project was long dead, but Jones and Warner Bros. are planning on starting production on the movie adaptation of the role-playing game in 2013!
Jones is a surprising choice, but it makes sense. The director is a rabid gamer, plus now is the time for Jones to prove himself with a big budget production. The trades are reporting that the budget for this movie is more than three times larger than Source Code. We’re excited, and hopefully there’s enough time for Jones to dust off the old script.
In response to the news, Jones took to twitter, posting, “So the gauntlet was thrown down ages ago: Can you make a proper MOVIE of a video game. Ive always said its possible. Got to DO it now! ;.”
But wait, the crazy news doesn’t stop there! According to Tracking Boards, the studio allegedly wants Johnny Depp to star in the movie. But let’s be honest, I’m sure the studio wants Depp to star in every movie they make, so take that with a giant grain of salt.
