“The Newsroom” actress soon could be added to the cast of the adaptation of Kyril Bonfigloi’s anti-hero art dealer novels. I’ve learned Olivia Munn is in negotiations to join Johnny Depp, Gwyneth Paltrow and Ewan McGregor in the David Koepp-directed “Mortdecai“. Details are sketchy about Olivia’s potential role in the Lionsgate thriller, but it’s doubtful that she’ll be playing the Jock Strapp character, Mortdecai’s long-suffering manservant in the books. Eric Aronson wrote the script for the film from Bonfigloi’s 1970s work with Johnny playing the roguish Charlie Mordecai.
Johnny invited Zayn Malick from One Direction boy band to his recording studio and home on Monday, because his daughter is the band’s No. 1 fan. Also in attendance was Alexander DeLeon, lead singer of the band The Cab, who shared a pic of the visit on Instagram, captioning the moment with the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star, “pirate lessons from the one and only. Thanks for having us, mr. depp.”
But this isn’t the first time Depp has talked about his daughter’s love of the band. Back in July, the megastar told Jimmy Kimmel how he arranged for his daughter to see the boy band on another talk show, and then the band followed the two of them back to their house, “to say, ‘hi.'”
Ed Sheeran was also spotted arriving at the studio.
Make sure to watch the Teen Choice Awards 2013 airing LIVE Sunday, August 11 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) on FOX. Hopefully, all Johnny fans voted for Johnny in the two categories he is nominated in:
• Choice Summer Movie Star: Male – Johnny Depp “The Lone Ranger”
• Choice Movie: Chemistry – Johnny Depp und Armie Hammer “The Lone Ranger”
Smarting from the box office failure of “The Lone Ranger“, Johnny suggests that the movie’s performance was hobbled by unfair expectations and bad reviews, many of which were drafted before its US opening last month.
“I think the reviews were written seven to eight months before we released the film,” Johnny claimed. “[The critics] had expectations that it must be a blockbuster. I don’t have any expectations of that. I never do.”
The Lone Ranger stars Armie Hammer as the resolute Texas lawman and Depp as Tonto, his Comanche spirit guide. Budgeted at $225m, the film suffered a tortuous production process and met with largely scathing reviews on its release in the US. Industry experts predict that the Disney picture may end up losing $150m.
Producers Jerry Bruckheimer and others in the film supported Depp’s complaints:
“I think they were reviewing the budget, not reviewing the movie,” Bruckheimer told Yahoo UK and Ireland. “It’s unfortunate, because the movie is a terrific movie, it’s a great epic film, it has a lot of humour. It’s one of those movies that whatever the critics missed in it this time, they’ll review it in a few years and see that they made a mistake.”
Johnny Depp is looking for a home in Britain. “The Lone Ranger” actor and girlfriend Amber Heard are reportedly eyeing several palatial pads to temporarily call home while he is in the UK to shoot Disney musical, “Into the Woods“.
He was looking to rent a home in Surrey previously occupied by fellow A-list stars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, but the deal fell through. A source told The Sun newspaper: “He’s keen on the Home Counties [around London] and has his heart set on a ranch.”
Johnny is set to star alongside a who’s who of Hollywood stars in the new film – based on the Broadway musical of the same name – including Oscar winner Meryl Streep, “Star Trek” hunk Chris Pine, James Corden and Emily Blunt.
Alright, I received many many e-mails from Johnny fans complaining about the critics on Johnny’s latest movie “The Lone Ranger“. Some people say that Johnny’s standing as an A-list actor is in danger.
“The pitiful opening box office for Depp’s latest film is only the latest disappointment for the actor. Is it time to re-evaluate his status as one of Hollywood’s golden gods?” wrote The Daily Beast.
I can’t answer all of your e-mails telling you what I think about it and whether Johnny’s career is in danger. I don’t believe the latter is entitled. Johnny is known as one of the most popular and talented Hollywood actors of all. I also loved his appearance as Tonto in “The Lone Ranger”. That’s why I published this post, to briefly let you know what I think and to let Johnny fans comment about it under this thread. Enjoy it!
He told the BBC in an interview broadcast earlier that he would hope to move on to “quieter things” in the near future.
“I wouldn’t say I’m dropping out any second, but I would say it’s probably not too far away,” said Depp. “When you add up the amount of dialogue that you say per year and you realise that you’ve said written words more than you’ve had a chance to say your own words, you start thinking about that as an insane option for a human being.”
Johnny’s comments on acting echo those of Brad Pitt, who suggested he would quit acting “in three years” during a 2011 TV interview with 60 Minutes. Brad – of a similar age (49) – said he would look to develop his career as a producer.
Johnny has a few more films on his slate before retirement is an option. “Pirates of the Caribbean 5” is due in 2015, while a sequel to “Alice in Wonderland” is rumored to include an appearance by Johnny’s character, The Mad Hatter. The star has also recently signed on to play the title role in Mortdecai, a comic crime thriller about a dashing and unscrupulous art dealer.
I added 71 HQ pictures of Johnny from July 17, when he attended the “The Lone Ranger” premiere in Tokyo, Japan. I also added 100 HQ from the “The Lone Ranger” premiere in Berlin, Germany on July 19. Thanks to Britt for the pictures in high quality.

According to Belfast Telegraph, stars including Johnny Depp and Bruce Willis have offered words of wisdom to new father Prince William.
The 31-year-old royal and his wife Catherine welcomed their first child, a son, into the world yesterday. Johnny has two children with his ex-partner Vanessa Paradis and is confident that William will relish having a family just as much as he does.
“I would say the same thing to any pop, you know,” he told UK TV show Daybreak when asked to give the prince some words of wisdom. “The best thing – the only thing you can do – first of all it’s the greatest thing you will ever experience, without question. It’s the greatest ride ever. The best thing you can do is just love them and be there.”
This morning many people prepared the “The Lone Ranger” premiere in Berlin, Germany. A German reporter uploaded 2 LQ pictures to the German Lone Ranger Facebook page which show Johnny during interviews and on the red carpet. I added those to the photo gallery! More pictures will be added as soon as possible.
